The Legacy Behind Nature Valley Lodge

Built to Last

Nature Valley Lodge was inspired by the timeless beauty and craftsmanship of the great lodges found in America’s National Parks—like the iconic El Tovar perched on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon or the rustic charm of Zion Park Lodge. These historic landmarks were built by hand more than a century ago, with no shortcuts taken—and NVL follows in that same tradition.

Our timber frame is supported by massive Douglas Fir beams, harvested in Oregon, carefully dried, and shipped to Holmes County. From there, local Amish artisans spent six months meticulously carving and assembling the structure—without a single nail or screw. Each beam was locked into place using traditional wood dowel pins. The ceiling was crafted tongue-and-groove, installed piece by piece. Canadian Hemlock was chosen for the exterior due to its natural endurance and beauty, ensuring the lodge will stand for centuries.

Event-Ready Space with a View

At over 9,000 square feet, the lodge comfortably hosts weddings, retreats, and gatherings. A spacious deck holds up to 40 guests and overlooks Hoyt Lake, a spring-fed, 22-foot-deep lake stocked with rainbow trout and walleye.

Nature Valley Lodge isn’t just beautiful—it’s resourceful. Powered by our own natural gas well, we minimize our environmental impact and offer modern comfort without compromise.

  • An organic garden and fruit orchards supply our catering team

  • A robust composting and recycling program limits waste

  • Our gravel driveways help rainwater soak into the aquifer, a critical feature in this unincorporated township

And unlike many venues, Nature Valley Lodge is prepared for anything. Our 50,000-watt generator runs independently and ensures uninterrupted power during even the most intense storms. While others may lose precious moments to outages, NVL keeps the lights on—and the music playing.

Stay with Us: Lodging at Nature Valley Farm

Guests of Nature Valley Lodge can choose from three unique lodging experiences, each offering a different way to connect with the land and the legacy of the property. Just a short walk from the main venue, the historic Nature Valley Farmhouse stands as a fully restored, century-old home filled with warmth and character. Inside, tall ceilings, original wood details, and retro-style appliances offer vintage charm, while modern amenities ensure comfort for every guest. The surrounding five-acre yard is home to mature nut and fruit trees, including a rare blackberry tree that, during its peak season, drops up to a thousand berries a day—a feature that delights guests and speaks to the land’s long agricultural history.

Across the road sits the Smucker Family Cottage, once the countryside retreat of the family behind one of America’s most iconic jelly brands. This spacious home sleeps ten and includes four lighted pickleball courts, a regulation bocce ball court, horseshoe pits, and a game room with a small stage—ideal for rehearsal dinners, family games, or relaxed hangouts. Its warm, rustic interior provides a cozy setting for groups who want both activity and comfort.

A few minutes down the road, Sherwood Forest Park offers total privacy with a six-bedroom ranch nestled among twenty-two acres of protected forest. Guests staying here can enjoy the quiet beauty of nature with trails for hiking, biking, or simply wandering through the trees. The property is both pet- and wildlife-friendly, with a strict no-hunting policy that ensures safety for all creatures on the land.

For larger gatherings or overflow needs, we also offer room blocks at Cobblestone Hotel & Suites in nearby Orrville, just minutes from the property. A shuttle service can be arranged upon request to make transportation seamless for guests between venues and accommodations..
